About Uganda

Uganda is a landlocked country astride the Equator in Africa. By region, it is located in East Africa and bordered by Sudan in the North, Kenya in the East, Tanzania in the South, Congo in the West and Rwanda in Southwest. The population of Uganda is about 30 million people and a total area of 236,040 sqkms.

Uganda proudly hosted the historical Common Wealth Heads of Government Meeting in November 2007 and indeed a blessing to host the Queen of England and the Duke of Edinburgh amongst thousands of delegates who attended and also Uganda hosted the Organisation for Islamic conference, mid 2008.

Please note- Customer care is the cornerstone of our Company and we travel with you while providing relevant information to help you understand Uganda better. We try to understand the client and serve better.

Timings/Days - The Country operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from January - December (12 months).

Language - The official language is English which is good enough spoken globally. Local languages mainly include Luganda, Luo, Lusoga, Lunyoro-Lutoro and Swahili amongst many others. Communication is very fine and accessible through emails, telephone calls, speaking and writing.

Currency- The local currency is the Shilling and other currencies accepted include mainly US Dollars, British Pounds and Euros. Other currencies may be accepted and exchanged locally through Forex Bureaus around town. Several banks operate within the country such as Standard Chartered Bank, DFCU, Barclays Bank, Crane Bank, Centenary Bank and Stanbic Bank amongst others.

Climate/ Weather- The weather is generally warm for sunbathing and wet during rainy days. We have wet and dry season.

ACCOMMODATION

Uganda has a number of Hotels all through to fit your demands, budget and preferences.

Kampala- T his is the Capital City of Uganda, which is also the central business district. It has hotels, guest houses and lodges ranging from 5 Star / 4 / 3 / 2 and 1 Star to accommodate guests. The 5 Star Hotels include Sheraton Kampala, Serena Kampala,

Speke Resort Munyonyo and Imperial Royale. Other excellent hotels include Protea Hotel, Hotel Africana, Grand Imperial and Speke Hotel.

These hotels are just within 20-30 minutes drive from Entebbe Airport and please note - there are budget class and cheaper hotels as well with reasonable standards.

Entebbe- This is the gateway to Uganda, formally the capital city and it is where the Entebbe International Airport is also located. The 5 star Hotel there is Imperial Resort Beach Hotel with international standards. Category 2 nice hotels include Imperial Botanical Beach Hotel, Golf View Hotel, Airport View Hotel, Lake Victoria Hotel and Entebbe Travellers Inn.

There are also cheaper but equally nice hotels - Flight Motel and Sophie's Motel. These hotels are just 5-10 minutes drive from the Airport.

Mukono- This is the next district after Kampala, only a 15 minutes drive as you head Eastern Uganda. Nice hotels with reasonable standards there include Colline Hotel and Ridar Hotel among others. There smaller and cheaper hotels too. This district is located on your way to the famous former industrial heart of Uganda- Jinja District. Jinja is now a tourism destination for sight seeing, white water rafting at Bujagali falls, visiting the famous source of the Nile which is the starting point all through to Sudan, Egypt and to the Mediterranean Sea. Major hotels there include Sunset hotel, Hotel triangle, Jinja Nile Resort and smaller budget hotels.

Between Mukono and Jinja District- There is a very popular forest attraction called Mabira Tropical Rainforest. It is famous for birding activities, nature walks, tree and bird species as well as research. In terms of accommodation - There is a nice and peaceful Eco-Lodge facility called The Rainforest Lodge , in the middle of the forest.
